Alyssa Fortner

Alyssa Fortner is a native of Chickamauga, Georgia. As a recent graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, she pursued double majors in International Affairs and Global Development with a minor in Anthropology. At Mercer, she was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and GirlUp and worked as both a Study Abroad and Peace Corps Ambassador for the Office of International Programs. She also took part in three programs abroad focused on community development and research, including an internship with a local NGO in Cape Town, South Africa. Domestically, she has spent the last three years tutoring students from Title I schools in Macon. Her interests are sustainable, inclusive empowerment and advocacy efforts, especially regarding intersections of poverty, food security, race, education, gender, and climate change. She is interning with Oxfam America with the Food Systems Thematic Team primarily to address the impacts of COVID-19 on food security.
