Kate earned a Bachelor of Arts with high distinction and honors from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a concentration in American Culture.

Field placement: Children’s Alliance

Seattle, Washington

Kate worked to connect school districts and non-profit organizations to federal programs in order to feed hungry children after school and in the summer.  She also developed an educational resource for anti-hunger advocates throughout the state, created a child nutrition brochure, researched and created issue-driven fact sheets, and worked to develop outreach and implementation of Summer Food Service Program sites in Washington.

Policy placement: Coalition on Human Needs

Kate educated Coalition members and the public about the current TANF reauthorization and hunger and nutrition legislation. Her work included writing issue briefs and articles for the Human Needs Report, attending relevant hearings and briefings, and conducting research and analysis.
