Sen. Klobuchar, Rep. Mann Honored with Hunger Leadership Awards

Awards, Updates

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Representative Tracey Mann (R-Kan.) are this year’s recipients of the Congressional Hunger Center’s Bill Emerson and Mickey Leland Hunger Leadership Awards.

The awards are given each year to Members of Congress who have demonstrated bipartisan commitment to ending hunger in the U.S. and around the world.

Senator Klobuchar currently serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. Her unwavering support for federal nutrition programs is matched by her dedication to American farmers and our food systems. Senator Klobuchar truly recognizes the interconnectedness of the agricultural economy and our federal nutrition programs—how they work best when they work together to nourish our country. Senator Klobuchar also has a phenomenal ability to work across the aisle. Her work in Congress echoes the spirit of bipartisanship of our award’s namesakes—the late Bill Emerson (R-Mo.) and Mickey Leland (D-Texas)—two Members of Congress who forged a friendship and worked together on U.S. and global food security.

Rep. Tracey Mann is the Co-Chair of the bipartisan House Hunger Caucus, dedicated to addressing hunger and food insecurity issues. During his tenure in Congress Rep. Mann has actively pursued initiatives to bolster global food security and support farmers here in the U.S., including advocating for greater investment in agriculture research. Rep. Mann has worked on a bipartisan basis to strengthen programs like Food for Peace and ensure that they are effectively administered and capable of feeding as many individuals in need as possible. He recognizes that taking on global hunger is both the morally right and strategically wise thing to do.

Senator Klobuchar and Representative Mann will receive their awards in person at the Hunger Leadership Awards on June 4 in Washington, D.C.
