9th Class Leland Fellow, Rachel Gilbert, wrote this blog post discussing the Global Hunger Index (GHI) and the role it plays in tracking hunger at not only a global level, but also at a regional and national level. The blog post summarizes the improvements in GHI scores in Malawi while also emphasizing that there is more work to be done.

Rachel Gilbert graduated from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in 2017 with a M.Sc. in Agriculture, Food and Environment. Rachel also completed the Water: Systems, Science and Society Certificate while at Friedman. Prior to beginning the Masters program, Rachel worked at the Small Planet Institute, conducting research for the book World Hunger: 10 Myths. Following her undergraduate studies, Rachel also spent time in Cameroon working with a small coffee company and social enterprise as an Environmental Educator.
