This factsheet provides information surrounding Black women’s participation in SNAP and WIC. It is informed by D.C. Hunger Solutions’ Racial Equity Impact Report, which assesses the hunger landscape for people of color in the District. While D.C. Hunger Solutions doesn’t work with food directly, the team plays a role in advocating for food policy and access, provides SNAP outreach, and releases reports that assess grocery store access, school meals, and now racial equity. Based on community input, the HFCR provides context and recommendations for improving access and program experience for Black women.

Hunger and poverty are key issues that Zhara would like to address because of their potentially detrimental impact on a young person’s health and development.
