Around the world, an estimated three quarters of a billion people face chronic hunger.1 In the United States, nearly one in eight households experienced food insecurity at some point in 20222.
While hunger is an enormous problem, at the Congressional Hunger Center we believe it’s a problem that can be solved. But in order to be part of the solution, you must first understand the root causes of hunger, and the power of public policy to address or exacerbate them.
That’s where the Zero Hunger Summer Seminars come in. Each summer, the Congressional Hunger Center brings leading experts together in a series of online seminars that cover food insecurity, poverty, and hunger, both domestically and globally. The seminars are an efficient way to train new volunteers, staff members and colleagues about the root causes of hunger, effective solutions, and advocacy. They are also perfect for summer interns and college students seeking to expand their knowledge and skills as anti-hunger advocates. All seminars are free to attend and recorded for later review.
The Summer Seminars will start on June 12, 2024 at 11 am (EST) and will conclude with presentations from our Zero Hunger Interns on July 31, 2024. Topics of this year’s sessions include power and privilege in international development, storytelling for effective advocacy, an introduction to domestic hunger policy, and much more.
