Global Food Security Act introduced in the Senate

Senators Robert Casey (D-PA) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) on May 7 introduced S.1252, the Global Food Security Act. This bill, a companion to H.R.1567 that passed the House Foreign Relations Committee on April 23, would “authorize a comprehensive strategic approach for United States foreign assistance to developing countries to reduce global poverty and hunger, achieve food and nutrition security, promote inclusive, sustainable, agricultural-led economic growth, improve nutritional outcomes, especially for women and children, build resilience among vulnerable populations…”

The bill would require a Global Food Security Strategy focused on small-scale producers and the nutrition of mothers and children. Implementation of the strategy must be coordinated across government agencies and departments and results evaluated and reported. CHC thanks Senators Casey and Isakson for introducing this important legislation.
