On August 1, 2005 the 11th Class of Emerson National Hunger Fellows proudly unveiled "Hunger Exists Here," a 5x18 foot "collaborative message mural" designed to capture a diverse group of people's thoughts, feelings, and experiences with hunger and poverty throughout the country. Created with involvement from the public in two open spaces on July 29 and 30 in Washington, D.C., the mural serves as the culmination, or "Capstone," project of the 11th Class, and is designed to be reflective of the Fellows' experiences in the field, from food banks in Alaska to community gardens in New Orleans. Crafted in collaboration with Miami-based muralist Xavier Cortada, the mural can currently be viewed at D.C. Central Kitchen, 425 2nd Street, NW, in Washington, D.C.
