MICHAEL JOHNSON

MICHAEL JOHNSON

Field Placement: UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy
Michael examines the linkage between food security and desertification. He assists the Global Mechanism of the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) at IFAD, learning about IFADÒs anti-hunger work in West Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Policy Placement: UN International Fund for Agricultural Development in Washington, DC Michael will disseminate information on the role of the Global Mechanism among NGOs, the private sector, academic institutions, policymakers and foundations in the US. He will help mobilize these new partners to work directly with the Global Mechanism on the implementation of the UNCCD.
Detailed work plan assignment

Education/Experience: Michael has worked with the American Red Cross, the World Bank Group, and the International Finance Corporation. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in South Africa and as a Fulbright Fellow in Qatar. Michael holds a master's degree from the American University's Graduate School of International Service and is fluent in Arabic and French.
