AMY DAMON

AMY DAMON

Field Placement: Fundaci°n Nacional para el Desarrollo (FUNDE) in El Salvador
Amy studies the economic, political, social and institutional structures of El Salvador's El Oriente region. She then uses her research to make recommendations for how cooperatives, NGOs, local government organizations, public and private institutions, and social groups can best work together to achieve sustainable development objectives aimed at eliminating hunger in El Salvador.

Policy Placement: International Food and Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, DC
During her policy placement, Amy will contribute to an on-going research project investigating farmers' livelihood strategies and land management decisions in the hillside areas of Honduras. This project complements an IFPRI program that works with the poor living on 'less favored lands' in developing countries.

Education/Experience: Amy planned and led a regional community development pilot project in Belize that compiled three agricultural development strategy reports on dairy and livestock production. She has also researched environmental racism in South Africa. She holds a Masters of Science in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University.




SHERRY STANLEY

SHERRY STANLEY

Field Placement: SHARE Foundation in San Salvador, El Salvador
Sherry works with SHARE Foundation's local partner organizations tracking the impact of government and multilateral monetary policies on small-holder farmers. She travels throughout El Salvador meeting with partners and farmers and helps to manage parts of this project.

Policy Placement: SHARE Foundation in Washington DC
Sherry will strengthen SHARE's advocacy program, promoting US and multilateral advocacy on behalf of sustainable rural development in El Salvador.
Detailed work plan assignment

Education/Experience: As a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador, Sherry focused on rural village and community development issues, specifically addressing water and sanitation issues. Later, she co-founded a women's food cooperative (Cooperativa de Mujeres en Asociacion) for earthquake victims in El Salvador. Sherry holds a Masters of Sustainable Development from the School for International Training in Vermont.
