DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic Community and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The CRS mission is to assist impoverished and disadvantaged people overseas, regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Catholic Relief Services supports Title II food aid projects throughout the Western African Regional Operation (WARO) countries. The CRS Leland Hunger Fellow will work with three projects with nutrition components in Mali. The three projects include a USDA/Food for Education Program in Mopti Region; a USAID/Food for Peace project in the Mopti and Gao Regions; and a possible UNICEF supported project in the Sikasso Region.
FIELD PLACEMENT
The CRS Leland Hunger Fellow will support three food aid projects that have a nutrition component in Mali. The Fellow will provide technical support for nutrition-related program activities; strengthen staff and partner capacity in nutrition; and support monitoring, evaluation, reporting and identification of best practices for Mali and the WARO region.
POLICY PLACEMENT
During the Baltimore policy placement, the Fellow will provide policy and program recommendations for Title II Maternal and Child Health nutritional activities. Specifically, support the McGovern Dole/Food for Education policy work around nutritional guidelines for mothers and children. Finally, the Fellow will work to improve nutrition within the agency strategy on health and agriculture.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Masters in Public Health/Health Sciences, or similar advanced degree, preferably with a concentration in nutrition
- Experience working in community nutrition with PD Hearth, Essential Nutrition Actions (ENA) and/or other Maternal and Child Health nutritional activities.
