ADRA is an independent humanitarian agency established
in 1984 by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. ADRA conducts
programs in over 125 countries and focuses on food security,
economic development, primary health, disaster preparedness
and basic education. ADRA has been administering Title II
Food for Peace grants in Bolivia, the poorest nation in South
America, since 1976.
During the first year, the Fellow will assist
staff in the analysis of factors that contribute to or inhibit
the implementation of the Title II Food for Peace project
in Bolivia, especially in the context of mitigating risk and
addressing chronic vulnerability. The primary outcome will
be a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the program
intended to better prepare ADRA Bolivia for future food aid
programs. During the second year, the Fellow will use the
findings from the field year to become directly involved in
the adjustment and realignment of organizational strategies
and standards in food aid programs. This adjustment and realignment
will be performed through activities that seek to improve
organizational communication and learning.
Education/Skills Required
- Master's Degree in International Development, Social Work,
Sociology or related field.
- Previous living/work experience in Latin America.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SPSS a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish required, French a plus.
Other Considerations
Bolivia has experienced considerable civil unrest
over the past several years. The proposed activities may require
the Fellow to travel extensively outside of the capital. Although
protests and roadblocks are not directed specifically at Americans,
civil unrest may require temporary suspension of travel within
the country. Fellows are required to follow ADRA Bolivia's
security procedures.
