AS-04: World Food Programme

Field Site: Cambodia
Policy Site: Cambodia
See Web Site: http://www.wfp.org/

Established in 1963, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against global hunger. In 2003, WFP fed 104 million people in 81 countries, including most of the world's refugees and internally displaced people. WFP has been present in Cambodia since 1979. The program initially began with a focus on relief assistance but this focus has gradually shifted to recovery and rehabilitation activities. Through its decentralized field presence, comprised of three Sub-Offices in various parts of the country, WFP is well placed to address the critical needs of the hungry poor. The WFP Country Office focuses on the following priority areas: education (primary school feeding, vocational/literacy training), health and nutrition (community based care for HIV/AIDS and TB patients), and disaster management (food for work projects, community asset building, disaster relief).

The Fellow will be placed in one of WFP's sub-offices helping to strengthen monitoring systems by contributing to the development of a corporate wide monitoring and evaluation standard. The Fellow will also assist in the capacity development and training of WFP and partner staff within the realm of M&E and program methodologies.
