Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an international
NGO that provides direct aid to the poor in over 80 countries
around the world. CRS/Benin supports development and relief
activities in five primary sectors: health (including HIV/AIDS),
microfinance, education, peace-building and non-emergency
social assistance.
In Benin, the Fellow will work on a new project called Education
First, funded through the Department of Labor, which seeks
to reduce child trafficking in Benin. The goal of the project
is to assist recovered victims of child trafficking and at-risk
children to participate in formal and non-formal education
programs, with a special emphasis on girls. The Fellow will
specifically focus on the legal and policy issues of protecting
children, with responsibilities such as: reviewing existing
laws, policies and studies related to child protection in
Benin; researching the responsibilities of various levels
of government for the prevention of child trafficking and
labor; and preparing dialogue papers for forums on child trafficking.
During the second year, the Fellow will work in the Policy
and Advocacy Department at CRS headquarters in Baltimore,
where s/he will assist with the development and elaboration
of an agency-wide child labor policy, which will serve as
a framework for all CRS child labor programs. Responsibilities
will include research and analysis and various outreach and
education activities.

Other Considerations
At Catholic Relief Services, the Guiding Principles

programs and investments. Also, the Fellow should realize
that security situations may warrant certain safety precautions,
and may require the Fellow to be flexible with respect to
CRS work plans and personal travel patterns.
