FEWS NET is a USAID-funded activity that collaborates with
international, national, and regional partners to provide
timely and rigorous early warning and vulnerability information
on emerging or evolving food security issues. FEWS NET professionals
in the US and Africa monitor various data and information-including
remotely sensed data and ground-based meteorological, crop
and rangeland conditions-as early indications of potential
threats to food security.
The Fellow will be based in FEWS NET's Washington office
working on a project to identify ways in which markets can
be used during food emergencies and how market systems can
be protected during times of crisis. The Fellow will develop
training materials and work with FEWS NET staff and partners
in selected countries to conduct training sessions. It is
expected that the Fellow will spend 4-6 months developing
the prototype field training materials with the remainder
of the fellowship spent on periodic field trips (of short
or extended duration) to provide the training.
