Mercy Corps is an international relief and development
organization that alleviates suffering, poverty and oppression
by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.
The agency now operates in more than 35 countries serving
over six million people. Mercy Corps began its work in Eritrea
in response to the 2002-3 drought, and operates in five of
the country's six zones.
The Fellow will focus on piloting growth monitoring
methodologies and help Mercy Corps evaluate their potential
to positively impact childhood nutrition. Another activity
area includes the development and implementation of a community-based
drought early-warning system to better anticipate and prepare
for future food crises. During the policy year, the Fellow
will be a member of the technical support unit in the Washington,
DC office contributing to Mercy Corps' organizational learning
initiative by furthering the activities and lessons of the
field placement for the benefit of the wider organization.
Education/Skills Required
- Master's Degree with a focus in one of the following areas:
Nutrition, Complex Emergencies, Disaster Management, International
Development, Community Development.
- Experience working with NGOs on development programs in
the areas of public health and nutrition strongly desired.
- Working experience in Horn of Africa strongly desired.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
