Field Placement: Arizona Community Action Association (Phoenix, AZ)
Sarah worked to improve access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Maricopa County’s Latino communities. She assessed the barriers to SNAP participation faced by Latino households, conducted surveys and focus groups with community members, and developed outreach strategies and materials to improve participation.

Missing at the Table: Barriers to Latino SNAP Participation in Arizona documents barriers to SNAP access reported by Latino community members and provides recommendations for improving SNAP participation in Arizona.
Policy Placement: Families USA (Washington, D.C.)
Sarah is working with the health policy team on efforts to ensure optimal implementation of health reform in low-income communities. Sara is also working to help protect low-income Americans’ access to health care by providing research and technical assistance to advocates.
Education and Experience:
Sarah was born in Augusta, Georgia and grew up in Nairobi, Kenya. She graduated from Wheaton College in 2009 with a degree in international relations and a certificate in Human Needs and Global Resources. She served as a Humanity in Action Fellow in Denmark, and worked on land rights in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After college, Sarah worked with the Abundant Table Farm Project on an organic farm in CA, before moving to Brooklyn, NY where she served as a benefits counselor and VITA tax preparer with Seedco and St. Nicks Alliance.
