Field Placement: Growing Power (Chicago, IL)
While helping with daily farm operations, Page developed a month-long curriculum series on hunger and nutrition for the Youth Corps urban farming program. She conducted a survey of Farm-to-City Market Basket customers and site supervisors to identify key issues and recommendations for improving the program. Working with the Chicago Food policy Advisory Council, Page also organized the first Chicago Youth Food Policy Council meeting and wrote a series of educational briefings on local policies affecting urban agriculture.
Hunger Free Community Report:
The Chicago Community Food Security Initiatives Blog profiles city-based initiatives to connect groups working for a more sustainable, equitable, and just food system. The blog also features a series of educational briefs on policies influencing Chicago’s urban agriculture.
Policy Placement: NETWORK (Washington, DC)
Page organized and launched Mind the Gap!, an educational campaign on wealth disparity in the U.S. She researched for and created several educational resources including fact sheets, videos, and articles. She used blogging, popular education, and social media to educate and mobilize individuals across the nation.
Pre-Fellowship Education and Experience:
Originally fromVermont, Page graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2010 with a degree in environmental studies. Her past independent projects include researching the implications of chop-and-mulch agriculture on Amazonian household food security and exploring the Green Revolution dialectically. As an education volunteer at Heifer International’s Overlook Farm, she facilitated programming on global hunger and poverty to youth and adults. Page has also worked as a youth crew leader at Healthy City Youth Farm in Vermont and developed a healthy-local-snack program for an elementary school in Springfield, Massachusetts.
