
Luis is working with WFP Guatemala to develop a food security project in the Dry Corridor of Guatemala. The project seeks to strengthen food security by adapting and responding to climate change in the area. He also supports other projects, such as the Food Consumption Survey and Purchase for Progress. In addition, Luis works in the Public Information sector of WFP on resource mobilization and emergency donor appeals.
Luis Cabrera was born in Callao, Peru and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 12. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chinandega, Nicaragua where he taught entrepreneurship in local high schools and worked with the National Farmers Union on value chain projects and the expansion of new markets. Luis remained involved in food security and accessibility after the Peace Corps and served on the Board of Directors of the Latino Farmers Cooperative of Louisiana. Luis holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from Syracuse University.
