Lindsey researched barriers to SNAP participation in underserved Mississippi counties. She conducted surveys and interviews with low-income individuals and service providers and shaped the direction and focus of the Food Network’s new SNAP outreach initiatives.
Barriers and Blues: A Client Perspective of SNAP Access Barriers in the State of Mississippi describes access barriers to SNAP benefits through the voices of Mississippians affected by them. The report also provides an overview of various suggestions for breaking down these barriers
Lindsey researched ways to improve child nutrition programs across government agencies. She also compiled resources on partnerships between child care providers and local and regional farms that work to improve child nutrition in child care settings.
Hailing from Hiawassee, Georgia, Lindsey is a 2009 cum laude graduate of Berea College, with a degree in education studies. Lindsey has served as a Bonner Scholar where she helped organize the annual Hunger Hurts Food Drive, worked at the Berea Community Emergency Food Bank, and served as a leader in numerous service organizations. Lindsey’s passion for social justice and desire to learn about different cultures led her to volunteer and study abroad in Vietnam, Mexico, and Ghana.
