Jasmine designed and conducted a research project examining the accessibility, availability, and cost of a healthy diet using the Thrifty Food Plan as the standard. She also evaluated the extent to which SNAP benefits could provide for the purchase of the Thrifty Food Plan.
How Much Does it Cost to Eat Healthy? analyzes the cost of healthy groceries in the District of Columbia’s grocery stores. The report includes quantitative analysis of USDA’s Thrifty Food Plan and local and federal policy recommendations.
Jasmine is researching the impact of asset-building strategies in communities of color. She is also conducting outreach and engagement with strategic partners on issues related to asset-building and closing the wealth gap by planning and facilitating forums, webinars and policy education activities.
Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Jasmine is a 2011 graduate of Denison University where she majored in communications and minored in biology and Spanish. She is a NJSEEDS scholar, a Rosa Parks award recipient, and an ESL teaching assistant. She has also volunteered and interned with organizations focused on education, social justice, and community engagement.
