For the tenth consecutive year,
Victory Wholesale Grocers of
Springboro, OH and Boca Raton, FL
and the D.C. based Congressional
Hunger Center (CHC) have teamed
up to recognize local anti-hunger
organizations that have worked
effectively to fight hunger in their
communities. Every member of
Congress was given the opportunity
to nominate organizations in their
own community to receive one of the
$1,000 prizes that are underwritten
by Victory Wholesale Grocers. The
Congressional Hunger Center received
50 nominations and made 23 awards.
This year’s competition marks a
total of $143,000 that has been
awarded through the Victory Against

Congressional Human Rights Caucus Meeting on World Hunger

The Congressional Human Rights Caucus met on May 21, 2003 to discuss the
pertinent and presently neglected topic of world hunger and global food
security. The briefing was co-chaired by Representatives Frank Wolf, Lois Capps
and James McGovern, and attended by fellow Representatives and Caucus Members
Marcy Kaptur and Maxine Waters.

faith and humanitarian operations, and to foster dialogue about prospects

Leland Hunger Fellows Meet in Rome With U.S. Mission and U.N. Hunger

The 11 Mickey Leland International Hunger
Fellows and directors of the Congressional Hunger Center (CHC) will
visit the United Nations food and agriculture organizations in Rome
during the week of March 17. Their trip is timely as global leaders
look at immediate responses to food assistance needs if Iraq is
invaded, multiple famines in Africa, as well as longer-term efforts
to cut in half the number of hungry people by 2015. They will also
meet with former Member of Congress Tony P. Hall, now the U.S. Ambassador
